The Observer

The rains past few days have brought with them a profusion of grass and weeds in my nice desert (no grass and weeds allowed) yard. So I sprayed them. With an audience. Of one. Cece. Ever present. Ever wanting in too. *sigh*

Weekend coming up, time for kittycats: BKCFoC CotC ARK WCB

Mancat Monday

Meowza was out, perched under the eaves, ran in as soon as I opened the door. Bazel was out, on the back porch, shot in like a big furry gray bullet when I opened the door. Izzy was in. There was no new cat pee on the counter. Life is good.

Life And Other Things

They borrowed my car but it doesn’t play well with the baby’s car seat so after they get bf’s arm set, didn’t do that up proper in the ER, will return it.

In the meantime, I will be wrapping what few presents I have got. Actually, probably have got most of them but there’s always the last minute shopping.

And loving the kittycats. Also, checking for disasters as they are in. I think. It’s a brisk 32° out, too cold for them and me.

Tomorrow, it’s Christmas with them. All of them child, grandbaby, kittycats. Life is good.

Eclipse

Finished my vampire book last night, would have finished it sooner had I not done other stuff and generally been a slow reader. It was only 629 pages long, action and romance packed. Won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read it thou.

Now I can hardly wait for the fourth book.

Blogging Will Be Light Next Few Days

My vampire novel shipped from Amazon.com, due to arrive Saturday.

I’ll be reading.

Update: It arrived Thursday.

Mail Stuff

Regular mail, got a couple books, one autographed by a David Kupelian. Me so happy. I must get to reading. Next up, Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter. I must read those two.

And Ann was featured on Hannity. Seems her latest book struck a nerve with the media. Can’t criticize the 9/11 widows for their Leftist retoric. It’s that PC thing, can’t comment on someone unless you belong to that class of people ie only 9/11 and certain other grieving war widows have the right to comment on anything they say in public of a political nature.

So by PC reasoning, that means only illegal aliens should comment on their being illegal. Fat chance, we’ll comment all we want on our country. We’re the citizens not them.

Diet For Optimal Health

Coworker was reading this book called The Maker’s Diet and she let me take a looksee. Plan looks to be detox to Leviticus. Might as well save some bucks and just go kosher. That’s what it is basically, dressed up a bit with a few added extras (check out reviews).

Jews were on to something.

Still, I won’t give up my lobster or shrimp scampi not that I eat them that often.

Lazy

Some days I don’t get very much accomplished, lucky to read the WordPress and cat bloggers. Still looking for that one verse and stumbled on this one. Love the description.

Isaiah 28:7: But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
8: For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

Now that’s a perfect one to read before eating. Must. Clean. House.

Already read all of Revelations and halfway thru Isaiah. Maybe I’ll just give up and go read Leviticus, yes, that’s one fun book. Hey, did get something read. Me of little accomplishment here.

Frank J. Is Writing a Book

See, sucked in already. He’s writing a book and from the preview he’s given us, it looks like a winner. Sides which, he’s enriching our vocabularies, new word - “muckadoo” probably derived from “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare. Obviously, Frank J. is well read.

Seventh Seal

Actually finished reading it yesterday, review here. My take, despite the end time scenario, it has two basic and involving storylines, corporate abuse and intrigue in the biotech industry and gang warfare centered around drug running and bioterrorism. Either of these would stand alone as an action packed story/movie. The earthquakes just serve as an opener and the story could be one of today’s corruption. It was definitely not boring as I’ve heard the Left Behind series was.

The thing most today like was this one character, a singer named Virginia who reminded me so much of those Britney and Christina sluts.

The only disappointment was it was less an end time book than I had hoped. It reminded me too much of now and really didn’t delve much at all into end time stuff. No big disaster stuff, well a little but more a sideline. Does deserve a sequel thou, another action packed sequel. Maybe in the next one, they can snuff Arafat, ha!

Decisions, Decisions

Which one to get, which one. I really am going shopping, yes I am.

Update: That was a waste, forgot I needed my Social Security card first so have to wait on the SSA for it. Stolen identity and all that crap. Better they be careful than not.

Across the Sabbath River

Windsofchange.net has a good idea, sharing good news, wisdom, and other uplifting stuff on the Sabbath, the Jewish Sabbath being Saturday, today. So if you want to be uplifted, go there.

I’m not particularly uplifting, however, I am trying to be enlightened. I’ve been reading the book “Across the Sabbath River” by Hillel Halkin about the search for a lost tribe of Israel. I am learning of some Jewish customs that I was not aware of. Sides which, I want to know where those lost tribes are. It’s a great read and I haven’t even gotten that far.

Reminds me, I recently finished “Abraham” by Bruce Feiler. It is a fascinating look into the three faiths and their father Abraham. Considering what is going on in the Middle East today, I highly recommend it to help in one’s understanding of the situation.

Bible Code II I Am Not Alone

In thinking the author, one Michael Drosnin is a whack job. See Bible Code Digest.com. Yes there are sites to it. Disclaimer: They sell their own software too. Quoting R. Edwin Sherman:

Bible Code II The Countdown (Viking) offers new mini-clusters that “prove” Al Gore won the 2000 presidential election. They “show” that life on earth began when aliens delivered DNA during a visit to planet Earth. His findings predict the 9/11 terrorist attacks, world war in 2006, an atomic holocaust in Israel and several other attention-grabbing themes.

There is plenty to fault in this new book by both sides of the argument. Code proponents will say that the world and Bible code research have both moved on dramatically since his first book, but that Drosnin hasn’t noticed.

And another review by Dave Swaney is even less charitable.

The author of Bible Code II The Countdown believed in his code findings so strongly that he made a nudnik of himself with high public officials in Israel and the U.S.

And he has probably written a second best seller about his experiences.

Yet his findings are not only very questionable in terms of their validity as authentic Bible codes, some are off the chart in fantasyland.

Drosnin’s new book on codes, Bible Code II The Countdown, describes his frenetic attempts to see Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Ariel Sharon and Yassir Arafat with his codes about the necessity of peace in the Middle East to avoid a nuclear holocaust.

Well and good. Bravura, even.

But his use of the codes to predict future events is not only futile, but violates Judeo-Christian beliefs. And when they show him that aliens are responsible for life on earth, well . . . maybe Art Bell would be interested, but serious code researchers won’t.

Several problems I noted, and I don’t read Hebrew, are, well, I don’t read Hebrew for one. Even if I could, the words could be interpreted differently, some have several meanings. And not knowing Hebrew, there is no way for me to see if there are other words hidden in the same matrix as the ones Drosnin highlighted. The shorter sequences aren’t statistically valid even. I have a real hard time swallowing his thesis that our DNA and the Bible Code was brought here by aliens on a spaceship, oh accidentally - forced landing here, with full knowledge of our future and that finding the Code Key is the key to avoiding said future. Um, ok, Art Bell would love this. Suffice it to say the plain text of the Bible and other scriptures has told of a time when we would all be destroyed. It doesn’t take much to figure out. Hey, we have nuclear weapons, we have terrorists willing to use them, and most of all we have the long standing (goes back to Abraham/Genesis) feud between the Arabs and Israel. That time is now give or take a few years.

Personally, I prefer to get my info from the plain text of the Bible and words of the Prophets. More reliable anyway. But if anyone is interested, there’s tons of stuff on the net on the codes, even free software. Just check Google. Then try it yourself. Warning, not all versions of the Torah are alike and results will vary. See this review. I especially like the part about “a heaping steaming helping of doggie-doo.” This is one of the more acerbic reviews too. Gotta quote here from Randall Ingermanson:

There’s a bit more in the book besides giving peace a chance. Drosnin believes that there’s some sort of alien artifact near a place called Lisan on the east coast of the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is lowering, you see, and there are places now on dry land that have been underwater for the last few thousand years. Drosnin finds a whole pile of “codes” that give him more and more information on this mythical artifact. It’s an obelisk. It’s a steel vehicle. It’s an alien code. It’s the key.

Drosnin spends a bit of time building this up with an account of his attempts to get permission to dig at the site. Wouldn’t you know it, those Jordanians wouldn’t give permission? There’s no peace in the area, you see, and Drosnin is Jewish, so they just won’t let him find that dratted obelisk which will be the fix to all our problems. That’s his explanation anyway. A cynic might suggest that maybe the Jordanians just think Drosnin’s a whackball.

Gotta love it. And yes, I think he’s a whackjob, already said that. However, it would make for an interesting sci fi movie, all it’s good for.

Bible Code II - Peace Not

Back to the important stuff, reading an interesting blog’s entry into the contest, Alpha Patriot. He makes some good points about the Arabs. Just read it. I thought of another. Why, when the Arabs have considerably (tons) more land than Israel, just give some to the Palestinians so they can have their own country and leave Israel alone? Probably cause their goal hasn’t changed since the Six Day War when they tried unsucessfully to exterminate Israel.

I base my opinion partly on what I’ve read in “Bible Code II”. I am a bit skeptical about some of the conclusions of the book but one I think has a chance if only cause after reading about the author’s interviews with the affected parties, they will be the reason that prediction (WWIII) comes true. Apparently Arafat believes in it. Oh comeon, why wouldn’t he? If it means the end of Israel, of course he will. Isaac Ben Israel’s comments indicate Israel is just waiting for a big enough attack to retaliate, doing “Something devastating.” And Sharon believes he can win militarily.

Various predictions of assassinations are in the book too. Predictably, the leaders who have been assassinated, have been assassinated by their own because they brokered a peace agreement. Arafat’s is predicted too and he knows it. Obviously, he knows that if he actively promotes a peace process, he is dead.

Unlike the author of the book, I don’t believe it is a possibility that can be changed by brokering a peace agreement. Nobody there really wants one. It won’t happen and any attempt at one will be doomed. All three major religions have the same prediction. And they haven’t gotton along since Abraham’s day, their track record is dismal. I don’t expect it will change any time soon.

Bible Code II

Hey, if the Patriot Act allows the government to check our library habits, not going to be a big deal for me to share what I am reading. So, I created a new category for books I read and my opinions of said books.

Currently reading Bible Code II, opinion when I am finished maybe. On second thought, seems Arafat, Bush, Sharon, End of Days all come together in 5766 (2006 for us). OK, so it looks like we’ll all get blown to bits in about three years if it’s to be believed. Course, knowing the players, it’s very possible. Cheers!

His Dark Materials

Finished reading the book think it was Tuesday morning and it was tragic in the end least in my opinion. Other than that, not much news. Missed AX, had to work, but the paycheck for all that OT was worth it. More money for Yaoi-Con. And the Bastard DVD boxed set I just ordered, even has a D.S. action figure, best price I found was at CDNOW. Soon, D.S. will be mine.

The Amber Spyglass

Last time I posted I was reading the first book in a trilogy. Well, many sleepless nights later cause I just couldn’t put the books down, I’m up to the last one and won’t stop til I’m done. So, nothing is getting done, sorry bout that. And I found the best part, two males that were embracing, it was obvious that they “loved each other with a passion”. Ah, yaoi!

Reading The Golden Compass

I don’t blog much when I’m working 6 out of 7 days in a row, 12 hour shifts, too tired. I will say thou that when work gets boring, and it does, reading a good book whiles away the time nicely. I am reading a wonderful book now, first in an exciting trilogy, fantasy setting, called “The Golden Compass”. It is full of high adventure, a fasinating alternate world with some interesting differences from this one, a compelling story and extremely well written. It has plot, something I desperately need in my writing. It’s better than Anne Rice too.
