The Sisters
I’m still trying to figure out how they are considered militants by Bill O’Reilly just for attending a Catholic church service. Maybe the two sisters in question were Catholic. At any rate, it was quite the introduction to SF life for the new Archbishop. Shedding some light on the matter, the SF Chronicle states in part:
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence started in 1979 as one of the first charities supporting San Francisco’s gay community and has since spread to more than 600 sisters in eight countries.
Mixing street theater, drag-queen elegance and community fundraising, the men of the Sisterhood support AIDS organizations, help combat hate crimes and, as they put it, “promote universal joy and expiate stigmatic guilt.”
And the names they chose that were so offensive that Bill O’Reilly couldn’t say them on TV were clever plays on words, most not offensive at all. They’re a hoot. Names and all.
And yes, they are a 501(c)(3) non profit organization.
And yes, they probably do offend some Catholics and most Evangelical Christians. Everything gay offends them thou. Hmm, lot more sisters since the last time I visited their site. All the more to offend the bloviater.
