Theologian In Chief
Got this one from WND and couldn’t let it pass by, comment was made Friday by President Bush.
“Well, first of all, I believe in an Almighty God, and I believe that all the world, whether they be Muslim, Christian, or any other religion, prays to the same God. That’s what I believe. I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace. And I believe people who murder the innocent to achieve political objectives aren’t religious people, whether they be a Christian who does that – we had a person blow up our – blow up a federal building in Oklahoma City who professed to be a Christian, but that’s not a Christian act to kill innocent people.
“And I just simply don’t subscribe to the idea that murdering innocent men, women and children – particularly Muslim men, women and children in the Middle East – is an act of somebody who is a religious person.”
Evangelical Christians will have a field day with that. They don’t even believe Mormons pray to the same God let alone all other religions. However, Bush is wrong. Such diverse religious as Hinduism, Buddhism, Wiccan, Scientology for example have little in common in their belief systems and can hardly be said to be praying to the same God. Not even.
That said, there are some things (values like compassion, humility, integrity, faith, discipline) many of the world religions have in common whether they be monotheistic or polytheistic and a lot can be learned from them.
Dealing with the next part of Bush’s statement, that of religion of peace, Islam means “submission” and I doubt he would like to live under Sharia. You think the Democrats would tax us, that’d be nothing compared to dhimmitude. There’s a whole package deal with that too.
As to what a religious person would do regarding murdering innocents (infidels and Sunni or Shia whichever is the other), think upon this.
