Iran’s nuclear enrichment appears to be operating below capacity according to this report by Mark Heinrich, Reuters via Yahoo. With respect for the IAEA, he notes:
Iran struck a transparency deal with the International Atomic Energy Agency on August 21 to answer questions about the nature of its program which Iran says is aimed purely at electricity production.
Isn’t that nice. Electricity only. Nuclear is clean energy btw, going green. Al would approve. However, there is just a slight bit of a downside.
As long as Iran refused to allow wider-ranging inspections of sites not declared to be nuclear, the agency would be unable to verify Iran did not have a secret military nuclear facility.
Aw, how could they? And there lies a problem, perhaps Iran does have a secret nuclear facility. Wouldn’t put it past them. They do have more than one known facility as it is.
Wouldn’t you know it, the IAEA deal has other benefits for Iran.
Western diplomats fear Iran scored a victory in its deal with the IAEA by allowing it to answer questions one by one, prolonging the process and foiling more punitive U.N. action.
Anything to get out of sanctions. Does anyone really feel Iran has no intention of building a nuclear bomb? Considering it’s peaceful intentions in the region and all.
