Trying Times

In a moment of weakness I did the unthinkable… bought a bucket of chicken at the nearby KFC. Hard part was getting the chicken on the plate and the plate whisked away to my room without the cats getting their little noses in my chicken. Don’t particularly like cat hair in my food. I succeeded but they then proceeded to trash the kitchen. That’s not exactly new… cats trashing stuff.

What is new is Jezi is in heat. Only took her a year but she finally made it. I can tell that butt lift anywhere. Much friendlier, now if I could just keep her quiet. There is a downside to cat being in heat… the caterwauling.

Rotated

Still testing themes, still using default but now the header graphic changes.

And it’s all kittycats.

Btw, I used Kubrickr to make the headers. Now I really need to stop playing with the kittycats.

Around The Sphere

Ewwww gross, I’m so not into old men.

Now this is more like it. There is nothing wrong with that pic.

Fake boobage, still she should have known.

Bingo! Only Lair, who else would make such a card.

A wedding, the blogosphere is having a wedding. Details here. Congratulations to the happy couple.

Terri Has Died

She is in a better place. Maybe now the attorneys can rest. And the press.

Wictory Wednesday

I haven’t forgotten the FEC. It’s still a threat to bloggers. And I’m still reading their draft. Don’t think it’s just the Republicans out to control us. This one statement made by one loser, John F’n Kerry, from an article by James D. Miller at TCS is chilling.

“The mainstream media, over the course of the last year, did a pretty good job of discerning. But there’s a subculture and a sub-media that talks and keeps things going for entertainment purposes rather than for the flow of information. And that has a profound impact and undermines what we call the mainstream media of the country. And so the decision-making ability of the American electorate has been profoundly impacted as a consequence of that. The question is, what are we going to do about it?”

I’d hate to think what John Kerry would propose to control us bloggers. Oh wait, he and McCain are friends. Expect the FEC’s final ruling to clamp down on free speech bigtime. (more…)

Jumped The Shark

The Terri Schiavo case, Jesse Jackson’s involved. His involvement is a sure sign that things have gone too far. Is there anything that he doesn’t stick his nose in, anything or high publicity value for him that is? Too many people have stuck their nose in it for their own benefit.

I found it telling that, according to the timeline, Terri’s parents did try to care for her but couldn’t handle her care needs. They didn’t last three weeks. Were the court to allow reinsertion of the feeding tube and remand Terri to their care, what’s to say that they wouldn’t discover that they still won’t be able to handle her care needs.

If, and it’s a big if, she is capable of improvement (best case scenario is that she is locked in, just unable to communicate), it will be painstakingly slow. It is possible that the family is reading too much into her ability to respond, that’s not beyond the realm of possibility. Sides, considering how long she’s gone without food and water, it is more likely that organs will fail before she could be rescued if the tube would be inserted.

They have been fighting it in court for some 15 years with not just a few court rulings but realms of them. It has to be the longest, most drawn out, agonizing process ever. Enough already. Guess whose tax dollars are paying for all of it? Not that that matters.

All things considered, that CT scan image (mind you it’s only one) doesn’t look good. I had said it doesn’t look liquified but that doesn’t rule out massive encephalomalacia. It would take a miracle.

So, what can we take from this case? The need to make our own living wills for one. Medical technology has advanced to the point where we can keep nearly anything alive, so how much do we value life for life’s sake as opposed to quality of life. We need to decide for ourselves so that this does not happen again. Keep the fighting to over the inheritance where it traditionally belongs. Don’t want to blow the inheritance fighting over the body.

The Courts, their power to make laws and control society is another thing to consider. Traditionally, Congress and State Legislatures have been the ones to make laws. They have had many years of experience mucking it up. Let’s keep the muck in Congress where it belongs. At least they are accountable, well except for Teddy Kennedy.

Consider this - just how much do we want Congress to muck about in our private lives?

And don’t forget Roe vs Wade, don’t want Schindler vs Schiavo to set a similar precedent for the disabled. That’s really what makes this case so crucial for the rest of us. Well, me anyway.

Oh, it does make for great TV on a slow news day. Tired of Terri, read all about the Pope’s feeding tube, Falwell’s hospitalization or, if you’re really desperate, the Jackson trial. Hey, Jesse’s not there, he’s over in Florida. That’s got to be good news.

The Weeds

They’d grown quite tall especially in the back yard where I hadn’t been for a while. It was work just keeping the front yard clean what with all the rain. Some days ago my kid did go out in the weeds, following a small trail and found… (more…)

Carnival Of The Cats #53

The Carnival of the Cats is up at Music and Cats, filled with lots of cute kittycats this sunny Easter Day. A carnival filled with kittycats is far better than a basket full of candy. Notably, I lost track of time and didn’t get a submission in. It’s that kind of day.

Izzy

Izzy has the right idea, lounge lizard he.

Catting Up

Meowza is all excited about the new feature at Lair’s - Ask the Cats!

Meowza

Looks like Piper is too, or maybe they’re both just very sleepy… or hungry or… did I say hungry.

Piper goes crazy

These cats definitely have their priorities straight.

Got a question for the kittycats, just ask the cats at askthecats (at) isfullofcrap.com. Those cat are brilliant, they’ve got all the answers thou I sometimes wonder about Nardo.

Everything’s Brighter Now

No blurry vision, it’s so nice. I’ve been SoluMedrolled. First dose: Two sticks, got a big bruise on my left hand, she got it in right anticubital vein, only stung at end. Second dose: One stick inside right wrist, really hurts to be poked there but it went in painlessly. Third dose: Four sticks, veins kept blowing, had to get SWAT nurse who put it in above an area of sclerosed vein, pain, it burned for two damn hours (had to turn the rate down twice without relief). Idiot gave me an ice bag, didn’t stop the pain and I took it off saying it constricts the vein, no blood flow, just the caustic stuff. It was excruciating, cried all the way home.

Writing this to remind me if I ever get the idea I need to suffer thru this again. I’m not going to cave for some blurred, double vision, shakiness, knees buckling, and short term memory deficits. I’ll wait til I either lose vision or fall down and can’t get up. It huts too much. And I’ll request a PICC line, stupid med has destroyed my veins.

Still, it doesn’t compare to having one’s feeding tube removed three times, this last will be unto death.

starved

Remember, it’s a gentle death. And no, there won’t be photos of Terri or an autopsy or a release of her medical records. She will be immediately cremated. Got to hide the evidence of the crime.

Small Cerebral Cortex

But very intelligent, sneaky, fast, really fast especially if there’s food involved. He’s no dim bulb. He is CAT. Well, he is Izzy.

Izzy

And cats are still #1 at the Friday Ark. As always, why you were expecting something different, not a chance.

Note, when I got home from work, I petted kitties. It’s the best way to start the morning.

Regarding Terri

Good:

1. From Bush on down, there are people willing to go to bat for Terri’s life.

2. True, there’s not a lot of cortex left but it isn’t liquified, Fox got that wrong. And there is a chance, small but a chance, that she is able to be rehabbed, probably even to a functional level, not brilliant mind you more like one of my coworkers, but far better than she is now. It has been done before.

Bad:

1. Get a corrupt judge and no court, not even the Supreme Court, will oppose him. Looks like Judge Greer is the ultimate authority on whether she lives or dies. It helps to have a doctor on your side, handpicked for his right to die stance.

2. The MSM are clueless. This according to WND is what the New York Times said:

Meanwhile, contradicting the experience of every starved child in Africa and abandoned street animal at your SPCA shelter, the New York Times informs us: “Experts Say Ending Feeding Can Lead to a Gentle Death.”

Well, I heard it out of the mouth of Shepard Smith too. …..on FoxNews.

3. When it suits them politically or otherwise, the government will stop at nothing to control our lives. Think about it, Congress made a LAW for one person, just one person.

4. Whe it suits them, the government will do everything it can to cover up a possible crime.

Make Dishwashing Easier

Better than a presoak and saves water too, cats. Course that benefit is balanced with cleaning the cat hairs off the counter, plates, and anything else they got into.

They Ruled

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled, no feeding tube, Terri dies. We may argue against the death penalty for convicted felons but it’s perfectly legal to kill those that can’t care for themselves. That’s babies (currently the unborn) and the handicapped.

I’ve known of families that eagerly awaited the death of a member so they could all fight over the inheritance. Think if they could just kill them off once infirm. Would save on nursing home costs too. What a deal!

Boy have we come far as a nation.

It does pose an interesting solution to the Social Security problem. Kill the ill.

Sorting Thru Email

It’s amazing the email I get, not even spam, everything from gay rights alerts to email from President Bush, the EFF to Catster to the Global Israel Alliance, it runs the gamut.

That includes the obvious email from Apple and the less obvious email from Alienware (sent to my .Mac account).:):):)

And still I can’t find the confirmation email with the serial number for my BBEdit upgrade. Don’t remember which email address I used. Grrr.

Which Palm

Which one should I choose? It’s gotten to the point that I need one. See, I’ve been writing little notes, stuff to blog, stories, links on pieces of paper then lose the pieces of paper (well not actually lose, just can’t find in the stack of all the other pieces of paper and I thought a PDA might work. Handwriting has deteriorated too, another consideration. Can’t read what I wrote. The iPod doesn’t have PDA functionality, not sure if there is software that gives it such, I can’t see typing by clickwheel. Sides, the screen is too small for that. And Steve Jobs hasn’t introduced an Apple PDA simce the Newton. Don’t expect one either. I have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi so it’s either/or there.

Inside Terri’s Brain

OK, I did find something else interesting. Code Blue Blog has a look inside Terri’s brain. He has some fascinating insights. Read the comments too. This one by Dr Tony is telling.

I heard an interview on the radio today with a physician who has over 10 hours evaluating Terri. He stated that she is not unconscious. He indicated that when he commented on the scene outside her hospital room window, she turned to look out the window. She vocalizes in an attempt to communicate. The discussion on the radio also discussed affadavits from nurses who swore that Mike refused treatment with antibiotics for UTI’s, refused to allow evals by rehab physicians and refused imaging studies such as MRI and PET scans.

The physician being interviewed also stated that his opinion, based on a review of the medical records, is that Mr. Shiavo deliberately moved Terri from nursing home to nursing home whenever the staff would get suspicious about his refusal of care. One nurse quoted Mr. Shiavo as saying, “Let the bitch die.”

Terri’s husband sounds like a real S.O.B.. Why no one blew the whistle on him earlier is a mystery. Read elsewhere where she is kept in her room, no outside activities, severly restricted visitors (family only). Think of sitting or laying in a room, unable to move or communicate, never leaving, no stimulation, no visitors (except family after being searched), no medical treatment, all on the orders of a loved one (who’s screwing around with someone else). Not a nice thought. Wonder how much she is aware, looks like she might soon become very aware, albiet very dead.

Hat tip: Patterico.

Mouse Fingers

No, this is not a cat post although it could be since my kid gave the kitties mousies to play with… hmmm failed to take pics. It’s a why the light posting post. I have been having lots of nerve pain, excruciating nerve pain, mostly down the back of my left leg but other places too. Like my two middle fingers, the ones I use mousing. On the computer, that kind of mousing. So I’ve been kind of not posting.

Sides which news has been wall to wall Terri Schiavo which after a while gets about as interesting as wall to wall (insert name of boring) trial that you are sick of hearing about. If you want to skip the bloviating blather and get to the good stuff, it’s at The Empire Journal, fascinating reading.

That said, must get up and feed the kitties. Then there are bills to pay, laundry to wash, yada yada.

Carnival Of The Cats #52

Is up and it’s a keeper, Happy Birthday CotC and Happy InstaLanche Lair, you deserve it. Yes, the kitty cats are rather fun when they aren’t misbehaving. Even Psycho Cat has her innocent looking moments. Sadly, she has not yet returned. She left days before her kittens were a year old and hasn’t returned. They’ve been pining away since (read wrecking their usual havoc and destruction). Yeah well, that’s what kitties do best.

Amulet Of Evil - A Kittycat Tale

There was an old woman who chanced to meet this crazy lady (so it was a coworker) who desired to give her a silver colored chain (guaranteed fake) from which hung an amulet or talisman as you will bearing the likeness of a cat (looking suspiciously like Hello Kitty but not named as such which would appear to be a trademark violation). Suspicious of the womans motives, said crazy lady having a raft of jewelry catalogues, she hesitated fearing the hard sell. The crazy lady assured her that was not the case and that there were no strings attached. Being calmed somewhat the old woman accepted the gift and attempted to put on this strange (and very fake) necklace. However, she was unable to open the clasp (cheap merchandise). Seeing her distress, the crazy lady assisted with an unsettling laugh.

Shortly after, however, the woman noticed the necklace feeling to tighten around her neck, slowly strangling her, her legs feeling heavy, getting weak. However, she was still able to walk (so it was like a drunk) and put distance between herself and the crazy lady as fast as she could stagger (end of shift).

Some time later she arrived home and was able to, with effort, her hands shaking, removed that accursed necklace and got down on her knees and opened up two big cans of kitty food for the hungry little (except Meowza, he’s huge - not Edloe huge, just huge) kitties to balance the kitty karma. Pondering upon her close brush with insanity, she wondered if it was the evil one’s revenge. Slowly, the image of that most evil of kitty cats comes into focus.

I'm out of focus you fool

And the piercing gaze of that evil one reminded her, the Carnival of the Cats (dig those Margin Models) One Year Anniversary is today at the home of the most honorable peverse Laurence Simon himself.

Friday Cats Rule

It’s Friday and you know what that means, kitties. The Friday Ark is up and if you look real close, you’d notice cats alway rule. And now that my problem is fixed, I can share these photos I took of the kitties. Here’s Izzy hard at work destroying the curtains

Izzy hard at work destroying the curtains

Meowza looking innocent. Well, maybe not, but he can never match him mom’s evil stare.

Meowza

It’s curtains for that cat, well he, by his weight, pulled the curtains off the track climbing up them. I need to fix but not before collecting evidence. I present the evidence.

the curtains

Bazel hasn’t been implicated in the bringing down of curtains, just chewing them once down and everything else, latest damage, coax.

Bazel

Waiting for him to chew thru a live cord, we do have lamps. Course, none of them work cause the cats pulled out all the plugs.

If It Were Me

I would not want to live like that and I don’t mean just persistent vegetative state, I mean totally dependent on someone else for my care. And I have advance directives to protect my rights. No husband to violate them either or as in Terri’s case eager to kill her (think there’s money involved), just a child who, if the money isn’t flowing in her direction, would be unlikely to oppose it. No parents alive either to oppose it. I am scott free.

I do have an ex husband…

He doesn’t care so…

The moral of this story, have advance directives. Hospitals always ask and if you don’t have one, they have people that will help you with it. That’s how I got mine. Doesn’t cost anything either.

Update: And the tube is out.

Still Not Working

And they’re too busy to fix it. Got an email to that effect. So no can surf links, comment and the like til they do.

Update: All fixed. Seemed the backup had an older .htaccess that was causing the problem, now deleted. Something to remember next time I upgrade and change the .htaccess… to tell Dreamhost to update their backups.

Rebuttal

Greg’s got quite a rant going as he faces his father’s imminent death. I feel so inclined to post a rebuttal as it were. I’m only quoting parts, really should read the whole thing.

You’re fooling yourself. Is it because you’re too weak to handle the fact that the minute you take that last breath, there’s nothing there? …You fell for the greatest scam of all time, perpetrated by bigots and chauvinists…. You let an organization lead by hypocrites, child molesters, and malcontents lead your life for you because you’re too damn stupid to think for yourself.

First off, I’ve read quite a few near death experiences to believe in an afterlife. I wasn’t scammed either. Oh, I’m not Catholic.

You’re great loving god hates me because I have a love that he disagrees with. ,,,

Next point, God loves all of us gay, straight, bi, whatever. He wants us to be happy. But in order to return to his presence, he has rules we’re supposed to follow. On faith, this isn’t an open book test. Sucks, doesn’t it. Life is not fair, it wasn’t meant to be. Deal with it.

When was the last time you turned the other cheek when killing people in another country you don’t understand or blowing up abortion clinics.

I don’t support blowing up abortion clinics. There is a better, more rational way to deal with it, called the law. Now killing people in another country, you must mean Iraq. If you’ve missed the positive changes that have come of that, you haven’t been paying attention.

I pity you. I pity your ignorance because I believe you’re really not worth the breath in your body when a man who has more integrity and honor even in death then you will know in your entire life.

It’s nice you put a value on my life. I’m sure glad I was able to get insurance for far more than that. Usually insurance won’t pay for any more than fair market value. I am valued by my employer. It’s people like me that keeps your father out of pain. Well, I know nothing about your father, but I feel I have integrity and I have met many great men and women with unimpeachable integrity, none of them politicians.

You get your afterlife if you kill enough terrorists, enough communists, enough fags and dykes and blacks and jews and whores.

No, that’s not how it works. Well, if you kill people, the afterlife might not be so hot. If you do good, like those that aided the suffering in the aftermath of the tsunami, show love to your fellow man, get a better afterlife.

Enjoy your church this Sunday, say your prayers, put your wife in her place, and consider yourself a good christian because you looked down your nose at someone who your ancient work of fiction considers inferior. And keep fooling yourself.

Not fiction, if you have the spirit, you want to help people, to bring happiness to all you meet/know even your ex. And you are filled with love for all, that includes gays.

How long before your god punishes me for using the mind he supposedly gave me? Or gives me HIV to purge the Earth of those he calls abomination?

He gave us a brain and expect us to use it. If you get HIV, it is cause you didn’t use a condom. God doesn’t have to do anything, we are perfectly capable of screwing up ourselves. There is no need for God to intervene.

You’re just fooling yourself. And if I’m wrong, I’ll see you in hell.

You are. Wrong that is. We may be in different places, but I doubt it will be hell. I know you dad is dying, be thankful he is going quickly. It’s far worse to let him suffer longer. And he will be in a better place.

Pedos

Instructive, found (Googled) it here. Yeah, I was in that kind of mood today.

Fixated (or exclusive type) pedophilia. The fixated pedophiles consider themselves to be trapped in childhood. They usually have minimum relations with adult peers, and relate better with children. They are identified mainly as men and their primary interest is in boys, with whom they develop boy to boy relationships. They typically plan their activities to promote access to young boys through church, neighborhood, or sporting activities.

Or a child’s paradise at Neverland. Like that. Thinking, if the child is drunk, his memory of events might be a little off. Good ploy.

Kiki Fournier also said children who remained at Neverland anywhere from a few days to months at a time would sometimes stay in Jackson’s room, and she described kids running wild without parental supervision and little discipline from Jackson, being permitted to stay up late, eat candy, watch movies and play games.

Not a responsible adult in the place. There was staff there. He should have hired a nanny or something to watch over them. Totally irresponsible. And to think he has children of his own.

Fruity

Pear PC, it’s a PowerPC emulator. They still have to buy OS X to use it. No thanks, I’ve got the real thing. Sides, I know how slow emulators can be as I do have Virtual PC. Wonder what Apple thinks of this.

Killing Ferals

Heard on FoxNews, Wisconsin has approved the killing of cats, not big cats either. Quoting Jonah Goldberg from JWR

Not cougars or mountain lions or tigers on the loose but putty-tats: Sylvester the cat. Morris the cat. Garfield.

The aim is to prevent the mass-killing of birds by cats, mostly of the feral - i.e., wild - variety. In other words, some people want to give granny a shotgun so she can kill Sylvester before he gets Tweety Bird.

That should send a chill down the spine of any cat lover. And in Port Orchard, Washington thay passed the ordinance against feeding them.

Now, excuse me while I go and love the kitties. They get extra treats today.

Feeling Defenceless

Nice to know info from WND which will just might make your day. It made mine.

“If directed, we could provide a limited defense against an attack out of Northeast Asia,” Holly told Alaska lawmakers, according to the Associated Press.

Want to know why?

But he also acknowledged it would have to be a small attack, since there are only eight interceptor missiles in place in Alaska and California.

Fort Greely, Alaska, currently houses six interceptors, with another 10 expected by the end of the year. Vandenberg Air Force Base in California has two interceptors.

Say how many nukes does Kim Jong II have? Point is that’s not many for defence, oh, and they don’t even work, testing results haven’t been too hot. What comfort it is. Could still fire off some ICBN’s and North Korea will look like a bbq pit or some short range missiles from a nuclear sub parked near, same result, enough so he wouldn’t dare. But we’d still get hit cause the Star Wars missile defence isn’t up to snuff.

Little Problem

I can’t access individual posts and the archives and calendar don’t work either. Not sure if it has anything to do with Dreamhost disabling
PHP opening, including or otherwise using a remote file using a URL rather than a local file path. Dreamhost uses WordPress too. Weird cause I can edit the posts just not view them which means I can’t respond to comments.

You may not be able to view the rest of the post or comment either. Everything was working earlier in the day so I don’t know what is wrong. I did send a support request, awaiting a reply.

Update: A little playing around reveals any link with “archives” in it doesn’t work now cause my test blog works fine. Except for links updated. Not updating any more.

Update II: It’s been given to their WP expert. Now Thursday and it’s still not working. I don’t want to change the permalink structure cause all the links I have will break. That will be a last ditch measure if they can’t fix what broke. Now my mail is broke too, just got that announcement.

Update III: Links updates, that’s working. No word from the WP expert yet.

Wictory Wednesday

This week is brought to you by Senators McCain and Feingold. Quoting from Redstate from the remarks of FEC Chairman Scott Thomas’s remarks:

The judge didn’t say to clamp down on bloggers. Didn’t say, “…take away everyone’s home computers if they want to send emails about candidates.”

No, being in violation is a felony subject to fines and jail time.

Further, for any persons making express advocacy or contribution solicitation communications, …had to contain a disclaimer, saying who paid, and whether a federal candidate had provided authorization.

That be me if I say anything positive about a candidate. No candidate, federal or otherwise, authorized anything on this site and no one ever paid me. Don’t even have Blogads. I do sell catstuff but haven’t made enough to buy my own stuff.

The disclaimer area for “non-political committee” bloggers still is governed by the statute which covers any form of political advertising that contains express advocacy or solicitation of federal election contributions. The FEC may explore whether some monetary cost threshold should apply, say, for websites or postings. This would allow bloggers, and those who post, and who know they have spent below the threshold, to avoid disclaimer obligations.

Like I would ever know that someone followed a link from my site and donated. Anyway, Wictory Wednesday falls under that statute seeing as bloggers solicit for candidates. Can’t do that anymore.

Right now, there is no clear exception from the independent expenditure reporting rules for persons engaging in independent express advocacy activity. They technically have to report independent expenditures if the cost exceeds $250 bucks.

Well for bloggers, that just about covers hosting not factoring in the cost of the computer which they will. And since it’s an iMac G5, I’m way over the limit if I poliblog. I would be in violation of Campaign Finance Reform. Bloggers represent a threat to the MSM, and with this legislation, they can and will shut us down. Don’t believe me, just ask Dan Rather. (more…)
