Helping The Marine

Jeff and Blogs for Bush have the who to call/contact info to express our support for the Marine who was so harshly judged in the media after a reporter embedded with his unit leaked the video to Al Jazeera, of all media. Sissy has words of caution on who not to call. The story of how he shot the terrorist insurgent who was most likely playing possum in the Fallujah mosque was twisted by the MSM to make it appear the soldier was the one at fault when, if he hadn’t shot the insurgent, he might have ended up dead.

Naturally, Powerline has the last word on the issue.

Cats At Play

Playing together nicely, kitties. Wonder if Lair’s cats get along this well. Note they have a basket of toys too and usually the toys aren’t in the basket.

And not so nice, hard to get them just right as they move so fast, usually faster than the camera recharges the flash. I just aim in the general direction and hope for the best.

Extremely Bad Idea

The American Street proposes that Bush nominate Orrin Hatch for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

That’s why I’d like to see Reid, Leahy, and Kennedy leak that they’d support Orrin Hatch the moment Renquist either announces his retirement or dies. It is unlikely that Bush would actually appoint Hatch–his Reagen-era ideological bent is a bit out of step with what passes for contemporary conservatism–but Democratic support for him would add an interesting dynamic to the debate. The Christian Right would vigorously oppose Hatch because of his support of abortion in cases of rape, incest, or where the health or life of the mother is in danger (the Mormon stance). A fierce battle would cause a rift between Mormons and conservative evangelicals which could pay dividends to Democratic candidates in western emerging swing states like Arizona and Nevada.

Point one, Mormons and conservative Evangelicals don’t get along now. Evangelicals are extremely anti-Mormon and have always been so. Point two, Hatch has sponsored legislation that rankles everyone and I don’t mean his support for stem cell research or his support for hate crimes legislation. Or even his proposed alternative FMA that doesn’t go far enough to suit the right. I mean the Induce Act. It’s opposed by the Computer & Communications Industry Association, the Consumer Electronics Association, the Business Software Alliance, engineering group IEEE and NetCoalition, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and anyone cognisant of the issue.

Hat tip to David who works for the Senator.

Update: Googling I found this. The Left like the idea of Hatch, reason enough not to like it.

No Child Left Undrugged

Received in the mail a letter of great import. Vote is tomorrow which doesn’t leave much time.

Your efforts are paying off! After over 7,600 messages from us(!), the House leadership supports the Paul language prohibiting the funding of mandatory mental-health screening. In fact, key members of the House leadership attempted to add Dr. Paul’s language to the omnibus spending bill, but some members of the Senate objected.

So now the question of whether your kids can be subjected to forced psychological testing — and perhaps even forced drugging — rests in the hands of the U.S. Senate.

We have little time left. The final version of the omnibus spending bill will likely be agreed upon this Friday morning. Between now and then, we must convince senators to add Congressman Paul’s language to it.

Just as we convinced the House leadership to support the Paul language, we must now go to work to convince the Senate.

Urge your two U.S. senators to support the Paul language to the omnibus spending bill. The language is as follows: “None of the funds made available for State incentive grants for transformation should be used for any programs of mandatory or universal mental-health screening that performs mental-health screening on anyone under 18 years of age without the express, written permission of the parents or legal guardians of each individual involved.”

Here’s the checklist:

1. Call your two U.S. senators. The main Capitol switchboard number is 202-224-3121.

2. Send a message to your senators. Go to, http://capwiz.com/liberty/issues/alert/?alertid=6664601&type=CO

3. Spread the word.

Your efforts paid off in the U.S. House. We must take the next step and convince the U.S. Senate.

“No Child Left Behind” must not become “No Child Left Undrugged.”

This idea for forced mental screening of children is the brainchild of the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, which commission President Bush established in 2002. First the children, then everyone will be forced to undergo screening if they have their way. I have no idea why Bush established this but it smacks of control of Orwellian proportions all to benefit the drug companies and, naturally, the government.

Other bloggers addressing this are Lisa, Sissy, and Bunker. Go read what they have to say.

Enemies Ours

Ask me, am I surprised? Reported by WND, the warm feelings we Americans have for France.

According to the survey by Rasmussen Reports, 57 percent of American voters have an unfavorable view of France, with 31 percent calling Jacques Chirac’s country an enemy. A plurality - 43 percent - believe France’s role is somewhere in between ally and enemy.

No, no at all. We are more evenly divided on Germany, Russia and the U.N. Wonder what the results will be when more dirt on the oil for food scandal gets out. Stuff like who are some of Saddam’s business partners.

SYRIA comes in third in the voucher sweepstakes, again not a surprise, as they have long been allied with the Hussein regime. There are 14 names in the Syrian column accounting for 116.9 million barrels of crude. Syria’s motivations are obvious, having been a hotbed of terror and anti-Americanism for years.

…”Included are a remnant of the defunct global criminal bank, BCCI, while another was close to the Taliban while bin Laden was on the rise in Afghanistan, and a third was linked to a bank in the Bahamas involved in Al Qaeda’s financial network; a fourth had a close connection to one of Saddam’s would-be nuclear bomb makers.”

Fred Gedrich, a Senior UN and Foreign Policy Analyst at Freedom Alliance, believes that “the UN created an environment where Saddam could funnel large sums of money to terrorists and terrorist organizations to the detriment of humanity and civilization?”

Yeah, stuff like that. And that doesn’t even touch who the money went to. Quoting FrontPageMagazine, among the recipients:

Money from the United Nations Oil-for-Food program helped pay the families of Palestinian homicide bombers, the House Committee on International Relations is expected to reveal Wednesday during a hearing on corruption in the Iraqi relief program.

Thou I imagine getting anything on the scandal will be time consuming as Kofi Annan is refusing to turn over the documents probably cause they implicate him. Maybe he’ll get the boot or we’ll wise up and get out of the U.N.. Not holding my breath on the latter thou. Diplomacy and all that.

More On Scouting

I’m not the only one to wonder that. American Legion National Commander Thomas P. Cadmus was less than pleased with the decision to cut sponsorship of Scouting from military and he commented on the same thing I did. Quoting from WND today:

In his letter to Rumsfeld, the American Legion’s Cadmus asked, “How is it the government can fund chapels on military bases, and chaplains in the military, but not accommodate Scouting? Why is it that the rank of Eagle Scout is an attribute highly sought in candidates for military academies, but will soon become unwelcome on military bases? How is it the Congress can sanction Scouting by issuing them a federal charter, but the courts can declare them ‘outlaws?’”

Good questions the lot of them. Wonder what Rummy’s response will be.
