Ripping Fast

Decided to be rather lazy so ripping CD’s, hey I have a 160GB HD to fill. Noticed that the G5 rips noticably faster than the iBook, whole CD done before I have finished listening to the second song. Sweet.

Now where I really expect the G5 to shine is in watching movies, 17in screen. Now it’s no big screen TV but considering where I have the G5 (on the table by my bed) it works just fine.

Dumb Real Dumb

Went to the store today, not any store, the Ikea store, the one that opened yesterday. I had no trouble finding it, could see it from the freeway. Place is huge, wasn’t enough parking and many of us ended out in the dirt lot a long, long way away. The line waiting to get in the lot, any lot, was long too. Should have clued me in, but well, I was there so I parked and hooved it over to the store.

Inside, we were directed, or is it herded, upstairs. They gave us a map, clue here. Handout had instructions about the tags and, on the back, space to mark down what you want and where it is. Mostly I didn’t want but wanted to take a looksee. Place was fascinating, had whole not just room setups, but apartment setups. Had some imaginative use of small space. Back to the hugeness, floor had arrows and there were signs and maps so you could see where you were and find your way around.

Only problem was it’s hugeness which made for one tired me by the time I actually made it to the checkout. And, as it was packed, they had not just tons of checkouts but people going thru the line with handheld checkers. That was thoughtful. Got thru that relatively fast, yes I did get something, and headed out, bypassing the food goodies, for the long walk back to the car. Now I’m totally exhausted. Won’t do that again in any hurry.

In Mourning

Mourning their loss Palestinian style according to the Jerusalem Post, Terrorfat’s people.

Meanwhile, the Police intelligence branch received information that Palestinian terrorists were planning on attacking Israeli guests at Arafat’s funeral in Ramallah on Friday, Army Radio reported.

The IDF will be placed on alert around Ramallah, but will not interfere with the funeral, IDF Spokesperson Capt. Sharon Feingold said. Feingold added that the IDF had “concrete information” that terrorist cells were planning to use the free flow of people into Ramallah to carry out attacks.

Figures. Expect they will really mourn when they discover how much of their money Terrorfat had absconded with. The world is a lot more hopeful than I am about their future. I expect the Pali terrorists to continue their reign of terror and they will get support from Iran much like the Iraqi insurgents have gotten. Why? No Arab state wants Israel to exist thus no Arab state will allow a peaceful two state solution.

Putting Terrorfat’s accomplishments in perspective, this article by Jeff Jacoby, Globe Columnist. Quoting:

God bless his soul? What a grotesque idea! Bless the soul of the man who brought modern terrorism to the world? Who sent his agents to slaughter athletes at the Olympics, blow airliners out of the sky, bomb schools and pizzerias, machine-gun passengers in airline terminals? Who lied, cheated, and stole without compunction? Who inculcated the vilest culture of Jew-hatred since the Third Reich? Human beings might stoop to bless a creature so evil — as indeed Arafat was blessed, with money, deference, even a Nobel Prize — but God, I am quite sure, will damn him for eternity.

The man was a real innovator in carrying out acts of terror, killing innocent children to advance his objectives.

Perhaps his signal contribution to the practice of political terror was the introduction of warfare against children. On one black date in May 1974, three PLO terrorists slipped from Lebanon into the northern Israeli town of Ma’alot. They murdered two parents and a child whom they found at home, then seized a local school, taking more than 100 boys and girls hostage and threatening to kill them unless a number of imprisoned terrorists were released. When Israeli troops attempted a rescue, the terrorists exploded hand grenades and opened fire on the students. By the time the horror ended, 25 people were dead; 21 of them were children/

And the world mourns this man. That is so totally screwed up. Hat tip Lair of course. Least he has some sense. And some basis for that diagnosis. From NRO’s David Frum is this juicy tidbit.

Consider just this one fact: the world media’s astonishing lack of curiosity about the nature of the disease for which he has sought treatment in France. He has suffered a dramatic weight loss, memory loss and periods of disorientation, loss of muscle control and recurring nausea. His doctors tell us that his blood platelet count has dropped dramatically, but that he does not have leukemia. These symptoms sound remarkably AIDS-like, don’t they? An AIDS diagnosis would certainly accord with what is widely known about Arafat’s personal way of life. (Some of the lurid, homoerotic details can be found in the memoirs of Lt.-Gen. Ion Pacepa, former head of Romanian intelligence under Nicolae Ceausescu. See page 36.)

Interesting as is the who and why of this info getting leaked. Hat tip Kevin who has some other interesting links and Kate. There is one more legacy Arafat leaves, that of a culture of suicide bombers. Per WND:

He has created the first society to have glorified suicide-murders on a national scale, starting from grade school, where children attend jihad camp, watch kids’ television programming that encourages “martyrdom,” and play on soccer teams named after suicide bombers.

I can’t begin to imagine what they watch. A whole generation has been brought up on jihad against Israel. That’s going to be hard, if not impossible, to overcome.

Sorry Shellshocked Supporters

It appears some people are sorry, very sorry, and in a sorry state over the election. This from WND is in the news.

Some supporters of John Kerry shocked by President Bush’s victory in last week’s election continue to seek out psychological help, prompting at least one mental-health center to offer free counseling through the end of this year.

The Florida-based American Health Association has released symptoms of what it calls “post-election selection trauma,” or PEST, which include: feelings of withdrawal, feelings of isolation, emotional anger and bitterness, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, nightmares, pervasive moodiness including endless sulking, and being excessively worried about the direction of the country.

Might try pondering on why they lost and doing something about it. Or realizing someone has to lose so it might as well be them and take it like a man. Did the Yankees fans act this way when they lost to the Red Sox? I can see why political bloggers might have something to say much like when the Dems win, it provides lots of fodder for Rush Limbaugh. Still, PEST sounds like something Scott Ott would come up with.

Makes me allmost look forward to 2008. Bloggers will have a field day with Hillary. It brings back all those fond memories of the Clinton administration. Oh yes, 2008 will be fun.
