Debating
Kerry is boring me in his first two minutes, what plan. Then Bush told what he did do to keep America safer.
Bush made some good points in his second response regarding the increase in terror in Iraq. “Collossal error of judgement” according to Kerry. Sorry Kerry, Osama bin Laden is not our only goal.
Asking Kerry bout his collosal misjudgement, ah not going to our allies read France, Germany, and Russia. Last resort, didn’t do that and pushed our allies (ones with fat oil contracts with Saddam) away. Now going on about Afghanistan’s opium crop.
Bush’s rebuttal was good, quoting Kerry’s own comments from back before the war. Failed inspections don’t work and wouldn’t. “Front on this war isn’t just one place.”
Kerry’s went on about body armor and humvees, who voted against the 87 billion. “Wrong war, wrong time, wrong place - what message does that send to our troops, allies…” replied Bush.
Kerry going on about first responders, homeland security vs tax cuts. Bush is on the defensive here, telling what he did do., Cut to reading Blogs for Bush feed. Back to Bush explaining the importance of a free Iraq.
Now Kerry is saying we guarded the wrong places, need other allies helping. Uh, clue, France and Germany don’t want to help.
“Help is on the way when you voted against the 87 billion,” good comeback.
Oh uh, Kerry is comparing that vote to his post Vietnam war protesting. That’s really going to get them.
Bush is getting Kerry on his denigrating the contributions of our allies. Discussing progress, alliances, summits.
Kerry talking truth? Hello, everyone back then had the same intelligence. Now he’s back to dissing the coalition. It’s 6:39 here and he’s still dissing the coalition.
Hey, what’s misleading post war planning when we won it much faster than expected. Did I just hear a John F Kennedy reference?
Bush replied, throwing Kerry’s words back at him.
Was it worth it with 1000+ lost. “Every life matters, every life is precious…” he gets personal which Bush does so well.
“My plan is better,” says Kerry so what is it?
Bush is back to his changing positions, Kerry’s plan won’t work.
Now they want specifics. Oh, Kerry is going to rapidly train the Iraqis. Bush replies, over 100,000 troops trained. 6:52 Oh this is good, Bush brings up Kerry’s dissing Prime Minister Allawi.
Kerry attacks, Bush had a brief rebuttal. Basically something about the terrorists are fighting freedom.
Back to resolutions and Saddam, they don’t work.
Kerry going on about the world being more dangerous. Wonder if Bush will mention we have Iran surrounded.
What global test? Take preemptive action to protect the American people, Bush discusses not joining International Criminal Court. “Not going to make decisions that are wrong for America.”
Wizbang has some good commentary too.
Bush has a good comeback to Kerry’s crap on Iran and North Korea.
Kerry is actually talking about increasing U.S. forces. Kerry blasted Bush for putting sanctions on Iran without consultiong our allies. Bush’s comeback that it wasn’t his administration that put the sanctions was brilliant.
Asked Bush about character issues that would prevent opponent from serving. Bush started by admiring several things about Kerry, not his voting record then gets to the meat, sending mixed messages.
Kerry responded, ah they broke the rules, looked at each other and spoke to each other. Kerry’s defending his waffling, getting into other issues not the subject of the debate.
Kerry states he has never wilted, never waivered in his life. That is funny.
Kerry complains about nuclear proliferation and Bush responded with the success in Libya, missile defense. Oh and Kerry wants to have bilateral talks with North Korea. Bush explains how we need China’s leverage. And yes, PoliPundit, Kerry wanted us to stop developing nuclear weapons too, specifically mentioning the bunkerbusting nukes we are testing.
Bush on Putin, remind him of benefits of democracy. Kerry did bring up freedom in Russia, back to the bilateral talks again, lost him. Kerry flashes a phony grin for the cameras while Bush is speaking. Wait, did Kerry get to rebut or did he just but in?
7:26 closing statements thankfully, starting with Kerry - stronger at home respected in the world according to Kerry, now bringing up his Viet Nam War service, bringing allies to our side… now Bush - if America shows weakness, we will head toward tragedy. That’s not going to happen on my watch.” all volunteer military, fight over there not here, free Iraq serve as example.

Tossup, there were times Bush was slow to respond and he repeated himself a few times. Missed a few chances to zing Kerry, but overall had good comeback to most points. Kerry was quicker, definitely the attack dog. As I was too busy typing, reading the other blogs, didn’t switch to C-Span til it was about half over so I missed some of the split screen stuff. Did see Kerry grinning like an idiot at the end there. Pundits will spin it however they want as I didn’t see a clear winner.

I didn’t see a clear winner either. Kerry is just one big annoyance…like in the beginning, when he tried to make a joke, and all of the sudden these big teeth appear where his mouth was :DOh my, I love your smilies! :whip::hug::grrr:
