Pigging Out And Julia

Ate too much pizza, spinach, mushroom and garlic pizza to be precise, yum, and feel like a real pig. Got clawed in the process, kitties have to make their presence felt especially when not being petted.

Still, doesn’t compare to crablegs with hot butter for dipping. Chatting with Jay, mentioned I liked that and he informed me he had that for dinner along with sushi, dimsum, crab legs, roast duck.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuum!

Great minds think alike or eat alike or something.

Which brings my thoughts back to Julia Child who is no longer with us. Man, she could cook and was fun to watch in the process too. I know cause I used to watch her all the time when I was younger. Even went to see her in person. She was just as much a hoot to watch in person as she was on TV. Julia and her infamous tasting, was a bit tipsy at the end of her performances too. Comeon, that was half the fun of watching her - seeing how drunk she got.

Still have cookbooks thou. Come to think of it, I have a huge cookbook collection. Must try out some of the recipes. I have enough that I could eat something different every day for the rest of my life.

Too many cookbooks.

And So…

I crashed, was falling asleep at the keyboard. Left off somewhere around here thanks to Reuters.

Rescuers searched devastated communities for the dead and injured and thousands of people were homeless on Saturday after Hurricane Charley shredded mobile home parks and damaged tens of thousands of buildings in southwest Florida.

“Our worst fears have come true,” said Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, adding it was hard to describe seeing “entire communities totally flattened.”

Charley, carrying winds of 145 mph and the strongest hurricane to hit the state in 12 years, roared over on Friday afternoon, striking with more ferocity and further south than initially forecast and taking many in the area by surprise

Did see a bit of the destruction on the news before nodding off. I will reiterate hurricanes can be more devastating than a terrorist attack. Maybe there are fewer killed but the damage to property will cause untold economic damage and for those involved, it is devastating to lose everything.

If you have never been thru one, you don’t understand. I used to live in hurricane alley so I have a small clue.

Couched

Undeniably. Nobody says it like Lair, nobody.

Absolutely brilliant. (more…)

Only In Canada

This is so stupid as to be unbelievable. Quoting WND:

While an American pastor is the subject of federal investigations for delivering a pro-George Bush sermon on July 4, Christian churches in Canada are now facing the loss of their tax-exempt status should they become involved in partisan politics.

The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency has met with legal representatives of both the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada to warn them of the action in connection with this year’s campaign.

According to LifeSiteNews, churches are not only admonished against recommending certain candidates or political parties, but they also face crackdowns for speaking out on issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage.

Right to lifers have a little problem here. Already know Catholics are toast. Same sex marriage, well this (need a clue) alone could lose the LDS Church their tax exempt status in Canada. Mormons are toast too. Evangelical Christians are, without question, toast.

“The best thing for a charity to do, especially during an election, is to stay away from those issues,” Dawna Lynn Labonté, a spokeswoman for the minister of national revenue, told the news agency. “There are certain issues, especially during election times, that are very political.”

The gag order on religions is said to cover all moral issues, even poverty.

“Taking out a full page ad before Christmas on homelessness might not be considered political, but doing the same thing the week of an election might be considered political,” Labonté said.

The policy is being blasted the group Concerned Christians Canada which says the government is subverting democracy, abrogating basic religious freedom and attacking the nation’s Christians.

“For 30 years, the Liberal Party has waged undeclared cultural war against evangelical Christians and conservative Catholics in Canada; this CCRA action is an official declaration,” said the group’s chairman David Krayden. “Christians and persons of all religious faiths need to know that this Liberal government is working to undermine free speech and compromise freedom of religion. Concerned Christians Canada will ensure that Christians know who their political enemies are in time for the next election.”

LifeSiteNews has a clarification on what the agency defines as partisan To wit:

According to the federal agency, to avoid being ‘partisan’ means to not address issues on which the competing political parties have opposing views.

How convenient, that is even more inclusive, think freedom of just about anything. If the competing political party opposed freedom of speech for instance, religious couldn’t speak out in behalf of it. There is virtually nothing in Biblical teaching that a religion could speak out on without coming afoul of that regulation. Oh well, just the issue of same sex marriage could kill the churches not to mention they predominantly preach that homosexual behavior is a nono. Mind you the idea of suppressing the opposite viewpoint was previously the province of Communist regimes and Islam. In case one is clueless, Christianity is illegal in Islamic countries.

Canada is definitely following in their footsteps. Think Canada is trying to find it’s niche. After all Spain’s has found it’s - submission.

Must go underground (if you live in Canada).

Love This

Saft has some neat features, my favorite so far the save state one so I can reopen Safari with all the same tabs open that were open when I closed it. Just. Like. OmniWeb.

Also changed the timeout for those slow loading pages.

Checking out the sidebar now, cool, works sortof like SlashDock gives links to the latest stories on sites which open in the current window. Can use RSS feeds too, got instructions for making my own plugins. I will have fun with this.

Note this is not as easy as dragging a RSS link into a RSS reader, does require some work here. But I can keep some favorites in Safari. Can add just plain bookmarks too.

Somebody’s Been Busy

286 spam comments, and almost just like with WP Blacklist, I can delete the lot of them with 286 clicks.

Need to fix that. WP Blacklist is wonderful - one click wonder.

Some idiot went to a lot of work too, same link all of them, different comments (looks to be using a random quote generator) and email addresses.

Bye bye eediots!

Update: Being lazy I decided I didn’t want to click “delete” for 286 comments so I edited moderation.php line 161 and moved the checked=”checked” from “later” to “delete” on line 160, hit reload and all comments were marked delete so one click deleted the lot.

I may do this for a few other forms where I want to change the default action.

Nother Update from Jay: “Matt gave the five-click method: How to delete them all? Comments Mass edit mode > Search for IP > Check all > Delete checked. Basically less than five clicks to delete 90 comments.”

Note the “Check all” is labelled “Invert Checkbox Selection” in 1.3 alpha.
