She Did It

Quit that awful job and is starting a new life, got a new cut to go along with it.

I’ll have to remember to use a professional next time instead of the do it yourself method. Surprisingly, I actually got compliments on my do it myself cut. She’s still cuter, great cut too.

Someday, I’ll have pics just as soon as I can teach the cats how to use the camera.

Dhimmitude Or Death

Is where it’s at and I am so keeping this one to remind him in case he forgets. Some things take priority.

I do so want to keep my head, works better attached.

Oh, and welcome back Michael.

The Last Word

Jay has the last word on the Philippines, the absolute last word bar none.

111 Days 11 Hours

Such a nice round number. Such a long time.

It’s Dead

According to Bloomberg, the FMA is dead, blocked, voted down, a no go.

Democrats will prevent a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage from coming to a vote in the U.S. Senate, Minority Leader Tom Daschle said.

Republican backers of the measure need 60 senators to agree to end debate Wednesday and move to a vote. The amendment would define marriage as between a man and a woman and prohibit courts from ordering states to allow civil unions, which confer some marriage rights. Republicans control the Senate by a 51-49 margin.

“There is no question they will fall short,” Daschle, a South Dakota Democrat, told reporters in Washington. Daschle, who opposes gay marriage, said that an amendment isn’t necessary and that the matter should be left to the states.

Left to the states would be a good idea if it weren’t for the fact that whatever the states decide can be overturned in a court. Think Equal Protection Clause of the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution, yeah that. And as Jay reminded me, the Full Faith and Credit Clause, that too. Anything the states can legislate can be overturned.

Senator Barbara Boxer, a California Democrat, said Republicans are trying to divert the public’s attention from the war in Iraq and the economy. “What we have here is crass, cold, hard politics distracting our nation from the serious issues facing it,” Boxer said.

Either she’s really stupid or really insulting. Marriage is a serious issue upon which the state of the country, freedom of religion, and civilization hangs in the balance. This is what’s causing all the rancor.

“Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution nor the constitution of any state shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than of a man and a woman.”

There is a one sentence version that allows same sex unions which is the same thing as marriage except for the word “marriage.” Still dead.

Googled Philippines

And this was the top pick news from at Pravda.RU.

Philippine Deputy Foreign Minister Rafael Seguis said that the Phillipines are to withdraw their forces from Iraq “as soon as possible,” in a statement,he read out on al Jazeera television.

This statement is very much contrasting to Sunday’s President Gloria Arroyo’s blunt statement in which she rejected terrorists’ demand.

Chalk up another win for Al Qaida.

Corrected my spelling, no wonder Pravda came up on top. Anyway, more news from Bloomberg.

The Bush administration warned the Philippines government that its statements about leaving Iraq in the face of a death threat against a captured Filipino fuel truck driver risk encouraging more terrorism.

“A decision by the Filipino government to withdraw their 51 troops ahead of schedule would send the wrong signal to terrorists,” White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters traveling with President George W. Bush in Michigan.

The U.S. State Department called for “clarification” of Philippine intentions after Foreign Secretary Delia Albert said his government will pull its forces from Iraq “as soon as possible” to spare the truck driver, Angelo de la Cruz, from beheading.

Wonder if he has already been beheaded? They have been known to do that. Irregardless, it was dumb to negotiate. Now will the terrorists turn over de la Cruz before the troops are withdrawn or after with head attached preferably?

Rounding up my reading for the day, 40 reasons to vote for Bush over Kerry thanks to Right Wing News.

Jay brings us something far more ambiguous, Phillipino thought or lack thereof.

In that vein, remember the Phillipines and Spain, Zygote reminds us of what a bad idea postponing an election was.

I hate it when I do that, force of habit did the wrong thing, closed Safari instead of the window. So now to go to where I was. Safari doesn’t save state like OmniWeb. Reminds me must get the latest beta and get the latest nightlies for Camino and Firebird and Thunderbird and update a ton of other stuff.

Not Fenced In

From WND, there is the latest on bomb technology as applied by Hamas.

Palestinian terrorist group Hamas is manufacturing a new kind of rocket in hopes of switching tactics from suicide bombings to firing missiles deep inside Israel after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon completes a withdrawal from Gaza.

The new rocket, named Nasser 3, is the most powerful and furthest reaching rocket produced yet in the Palestinian territories. The rocket carries a five-kilogram warhead to a range of 9 kilometers and has a standard explosive warhead combined with metal fragments and a standard fuse.

Previously, the Palestinians had been using Qassam 2 rockets, which used improvised fuses and warheads that didn’t always explode upon impact. The Nasser 3 is built to guarantee an explosion.

Guaranteed to explode and with a range that will handily overcome that little fence obstacle, kindof a waste of money building the fence.

“Hamas knows they can’t get inside Israel because of the security fence, and they are setting the stages for a major shift in tactics from suicide bombings to firing effective rockets from Palestinian areas deep inside Israel.”

The rocket is cased in a 110-120 millimeter diameter steel water pipe, containing some 20 kilograms of improvised solid propellant, usually manufactured from available potassium nitrate fertilizer and powdered sugar.

…The Nasser 3 has four stabilizing fins welded to the casing and is launched from rails mounted on a bipod. An electric fuse, triggered by a timing mechanism or a live rocket crew, ignites the rocket’s engine.

It will definitely post a challenge and keep the IDF busy monitoring for rockets.

The IDF has been debating how best to respond to the new rocket threat. Israel has been using both ground and airborne observation platforms, including use of a 24-hour thermal camera, combined with an upgraded artillery-locating radar to detect and attack rocket-firing teams.

All this fuss over the fence before it’s all built and they have come up with a way to bypass it. *sigh* It’s always something.

Joy Not

Went out to get the batteries and now I can use the PC again. Now I need to find out why NAV isn’t working. It’s always something with that PC.

And my trip out was a bit warm, my widget says 102, felt hotter, was hotter in the car. Said hot trip had the effect of aggravating my symptoms. Vision is icky, that premigrainous stuff so I will have to stick to sites with dark backgrounds, they don’t bother me as much as white backgrounds. Point to make, if skinning, offer a variety for us impaired folks.

Making things worse, I’ll probably have to go out again to get more litter. Cats go thru litter like a tornado then poop on the floor. Been cleaning up way too much kitty poop.

Oh For A Mousie

A functional mousie, one that works. Remote optical mouse died, or rather it’s batteries died and I have to go buy more. Kid had to have the remote keyboard and mouse, her PC.

It was absolutely brilliant that Windows is so designed that it doesn’t work without a mouse.

Not so a Mac, got all these keyboard shortcuts that I can use instead of a mouse if I so desire. I do so love my iBook. Macs rule. Check this out, cool videoconferencing software that also…

Facetop may also be used to as an alternative to the mouse, for controlling a machine simply by pointing with a finger.

The system is implemented in Mac OS X and is made possible largely by the system’s Quartz rendering engine, which can make any part of the interface transparent. Thanks to Quartz, a quick prototype was whipped up in about 45 minutes, Smith said.

A PC version will likely be delayed until the release of Longhorn, the next major version of Windows, due in 2006, which will include a similar graphics subsystem.

XP can’t do that.

Sleep

Finally got some sorely needed sleep. The heat, humidity and phone had comspired against me yesterday making sleep difficult. I even got a call from work. Thankfully, they didn’t want me to work. See, my coworker is leaving and they need to replace him so my supervisor called me asking my opinion of one of the people applying for the job. Unfortunately, I barely remembered the person. Even with sleep, the only memory I can muster is she is a bit difficult to understand. I’m so unhelpful.

Considering how awake I was yesterday, one would think I would have blogged more. Nope, between the hard drive getting hot making using the laptop uncomfortable and my vision being all sparkly, wavey and crap, just wasn’t in the cards. I did, however, turn up the fan. That helped with my comfort level although there may be some papers strewn about cause I did that.

Imagine a Powerbook in this heat. They run lots hotter than this little iBook. Why I didn’t get one actually as I could have when I replaced the stolen iBook. Never did get one of those new iMacs which I wanted either cause then the G5 came out and never did get one of those cause I couldn’t afford one when you add in the cost of the monitor. Now they are coming out with new iMacs, rumored to be G5 iMacs. Wonder if they will have the spiffy movable screen which I considered the best feature of those iMacs. Got to wait til September for that too.
