Oooo, lookie here, another worm, dangerous one too. According to Wired you can get infected without doing anything too.

Another computer worm, this one known as Sasser, has infected hundreds of thousands of PCs globally and the number could soon rise sharply, a top computer security official said Monday.

“If you take a normal Windows PC and connect to the Internet, you will be infected in 10 minutes (without protection),” said Mikko Hypponen, anti-virus research director at F-Secure, a Finnish data security firm.

“It seems to be gradually getting worse, but it could jump as the U.S. wakes up.”

F-Secure says the worm, which surfaced over the weekend, automatically spreads over the Internet to computers using the Microsoft Windows operating system, especially Windows 2000 and XP.

PC is using Windows 2000. It gets better.

The current worm does not need to be activated by double-clicking on an attachment and can strike even if no one is using the PC at the time. When a machine is infected, error messages may appear and the computer may reboot repeatedly.

Must go check PC for damages here and download the patch if it’s not too late.

Another reason use a Mac.

Update: Updated virus definitions and scanning PC now. If it comes up clean, will download the patch next.

Interesting, according to WND, they are considering drafting women.

The Selective Service System has proposed revamping the draft to include the registration of women, expanding the age limits and requiring that young Americans keep the government informed about those critical skills most valuable to the military.

The proposal, presented to the Pentagon before the invasion of Iraq by the agency’s acting Director Lewis Brodsky, would extend the age of draft registration to 34 years old, up from 25. It was revealed by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, which obtained the plan under the Freedom of Information Act.

“In line with today’s needs, the Selective Service System’s structure, programs and activities should be re-engineered toward maintaining a national inventory of American men and, for the first time, women, ages 18 through 34, with an added focus on identifying individuals with critical skills,” the agency said in a Feb. 11, 2003, proposal presented to senior Pentagon officials, according to the Sunday editions of the paper.

That excludes me. First, I am too old. Second, I already served thou that never stopped them if they need you. One of my MOS’s was 95C, MP Corrections. Probably need some decent corrections officers right about now in Iraq, However, since my back is trashed, doubt they would want me under any circumstance.

At present, the Selective Service is authorized to register only young men and they are not required to inform the government about any professional skills. The agency has in place a special registration system to draft health-care personnel in more than 60 specialties into the military if necessary in a crisis.

There be women in health care, lots. Irregardless of whether or not they draft women in general, they will nab the health care workers. And they do know who is a health care worker irregardless of whether or not you tell them. One of the advantages of being licensed here, they know who you are.

Work related rant follows. I had already decided to cut back, not work four days every week, just every other week and not all in a row. I’m even more adamant now that I’ve done such and my pain skyrocketed.

Course, that doesn’t change the schedule already in place. Have another four in a row to do before I’m done with them.

Maybe.

Supervisor came down asking me to work a day the other coworker had decided, after the schedule was made, not to work. So she asked me and I declined as I know just how much I will hurt after the four in a row. She called another person but hasn’t got an answer yet. She said one of us has to do it.

Since when is overtime mandatory? And since when have they ignored an employee’s health for their own gains? Previous coworker could only work three days a week and never more that two in a row due to health reasons. I can understand being considerate of someone cause of their health. That’s how we got dummy, they needed a place that would be easy, less physically demanding for her. Problem was, although the job is a piece of cake, it requires brains. And that she is lacking. In spades. Now since it’s my health that is trashed, I want some consideration too.

Course, now the Union has decided against calling for a vote, they don’t have to be nice. Now the big question is, will they be considerate of me? I am only the best one there at the job and they know it. However, I am not a minority which tends to work against me. She is. Minority status always trumps ability, always.

Sucks.

Update: Coworker called, will work with me on the schedule so I won’t have to do four in a row, I am relieved. Course, that doesn’t help the days she can’t work. We are working on that one, probably go to higher up to complain bout mandatory overtime. That might work.
