Where To WiFi

Lair has a few suggestions, none of them UPS.

Are the lines at UPS stores so bad that people need the same kind of access there for WiFi? Will UPS provide seats and tables for people to type at, or will they have to stand in line with their laptops? What about coffee, adequate parking, or everything else that people expect with a place where they can sit awhile and work out of the office?

Might I not suggest Starbucks particularly the Starbucks in Saudi Arabia which, according to MEI are a bit lacking.

McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, and other U.S. firms, for instance, maintain strictly segregated eating zones in their restaurants. The men’s sections are typically lavish, comfortable and up to Western standards, whereas the women’s or families’ sections are often run-down, neglected and, in the case of Starbucks, have no seats.

Well if you’re female that is, might get that discriminated against feeling. Unless you’re Jewish, then you’re not even allowed in that country. Link thanks to Serenity. Now here’s the place to WiFi at - the baseball stadium.

Baseball fans bored by the slow pace of a game or wanting more statistics and information will be able to connect computer devices via wireless computer networking, or WiFi, at San Francisco Giants home games this year, the team announced on Tuesday. The Giants’ stadium is, after all, called SBC Park, for telecommunications giant SBC Communications Inc.

Perfect, baseball is so boring, bringing along a laptop and blogging would be a great improvement. Thanks Lair (via IM) for that link.

Explosion In Texas

Chemical plant at Texas City. Quoting News24:

Witnesses report seeing multiple explosions and flames in the vicinity of one of the nearby plants. The explosions happened around 7:15 p.m.

Authorities say it happened at the BP Amoco Chemical Plant in Texas City located at FM 519 East.

A shelter-in-place was in effect for Texas City and La Marque but has since been lifted.

Fortunately, winds are blowing the smoke toward the gulf and away from the more populated areas nearby.

Sirens have gone off to indicate that it is now safe to go outside.

Wonder why?

Taking Care Of Business

Great ad, it’s a must see thanks to Weapons of Mass Discussion.

Checked, Blogs for Bush already noticed. Gotta share with my friends.

Cult Following

Greg outdid himself, now I’m a cult. Hey if I make someone happy with a little linkage, glad to do it.

Still, I’m no Instapundit. For one, I don’t blend puppies.

Not Frank J.

Thinking…

Come to think of it, I’m not anyone important in the blogosphere. No matter, blogging is fun. And if you can’t have a little fun, who bother?

That has to be the best picture I’ve seen of those two.

Warning: Put the drink down before you look!

Someone Had To Ask

Well should Kerry be excommunicated? Ben ponders the question noone wants to admit they have. Quoting:

However, Kerry considers himself to be a devout Roman Catholic who regularly makes time in his campaign schedule for Mass. If he’s so devout, however, then why does he consistently flout Church teachings regarding abortion and other issues?

Good point, maybe if he became a little less devout, like say Madonna, he would have less trouble getting away with it. On the good side, if it can be considered a good side, the Vatican won’t be controlling the White House if Kerry becomes President. Those of us old enough remember that was a concern back when J.F.K. ran for President. Instead, France will be controlling the White House or prehaps the U.N.. Hey, remember how brilliantly Kofi Annan administered the oil for food program, he’d do a bang up job of running our country. No mention of the horrific scandal regarding said oil for food program. Yeah, right, a vote for Kerry is a vote for the U.N. control, abortion for population control, socialized medicine, taxation… ok nuff said. Not a good Catholic, k.

Careful Who You Sleep With

Might catch some horrible disease like dhimmitude. To wit, from sisu, we get this story from Robert Spencer of Dhimmi Watch. Quoting:

As I have pointed out in the past, it is ironic that leftists are marching under the banner of “No Blood for Oil” when it is leftist governments who have decided to roll over and play dhimmi in exchange for petroleum.

His comments from FrontPage magazine are telling.

The renowned historian Bat Ye’or explains that the European Union has since 1973 been constructing “a whole infrastructure of alliances and economic, industrial, media, cultural, financial bonds with the countries of the Arab League.” This new Euro-Muslim entity - which she has dubbed “Eurabia” - has been consciously intended to become “a counterweight to American power” on the world stage, “whose aim was to separate and weaken the two continents by an incitement to hostility and the permanent denigration of American policy in the Middle East.”

…The fallout has been cultural and demographic as well, as Bat Ye’or details in her forthcoming book, Eurabia. In exchange for the opening of Arab markets, Europeans encouraged Muslim immigration into Europe, discouraged assimilation of these immigrant populations, and fostered the dissemination in Europe of Islamic perspectives on history and contemporary politics. Meanwhile European foreign policies were brought into harmony with the aims and goals of the Islamic world.

This “shifting of Europe into the Arab-Islamic sphere of influence,” Bat Ye’or explains, was intended to break the “traditional trans-Atlantic solidarity.” To deflate American power and assure themselves a steady supply of oil, European leaders accepted “the traditional cultural baggage of Arab societies, with its anti-Christian and anti-Jewish prejudices and its hostility against Israel and the West.” In exchange for markets in the Islamic world, Europe turned its back on its Judeo-Christian heritage and set the stage for its own Islamization. At the highest political level, Europe, including Spain, has been selling its soul for decades now - giving up, in effect, its blood for oil (not to mention the blood of countless Iraqis and others who had to suffer under the heel of tyrants with whom Europe happily did business.)

The Euroweenies are happily on their way to dhimmitude. Apparently, freedom is on little importance when it come to getting the goodies and, even more important, taking the U.S. down. Sad that the country that promotes freedom, that is the most likely to defend their freedom, is the one they are dead set against.

It gets better. From VodkaPundit, there is this bomb. Quoting:

Europe, it seems, would rather cozy up to Beijing in an attempt to “contain” the US.

That’s right, Euroweenie weapons deals with China. From the NRO are the details.

Our European allies might well approve plans to sell China advanced weaponry at the March 25-26 European Union summit that begins today.

The repercussions would be disastrous. Not only could China use new weapons from Europe against Taiwan, but Chinese generals have said they’re prepared to confront U.S. forces in the Pacific if America tries to help Taiwan.

Why would NATO allies put the United States in this position? Money is one reason. But European commentators suspect that France and China want to build a multipolar alliance to counter American “hegemony.”

France now calls China “a special partner…playing a key and responsible role in the international system” and declares that the EU “should encourage it in this direction to contribute to international stability and security, especially in Asia.” This despite China’s growing missile threat to Taiwan, its support of North Korea’s right to have nuclear weapons as a “legitimate security concern” against a U.S. threat, and Beijing’s increasingly vitriolic criticisms of Hong Kong’s hugely popular democratic party.

What do these obviously disparate alliances have in common? Containing their common threat - the U.S.. Interesting, watched on TV as President Bush welcomed new countries into NATO all the while the old ones are planning on stabbing us in the back. A global back stabbing. Where will it end? Oh, I know - GTNW.

Every Woman’s Dream…

Received in the mail, thanks Isa.

A teacher asked her class, “What do you want out of life”?

A little girl in the back raised her hand and said, “All I want out of life is four animals.”

The teacher asked “Really? And what four animals would that be”?

The little girl replied, “A mink on my back, a jaguar in the garage, a tiger in my bed and a jackass to pay for it all.”

The teacher fainted.

Hanging Out With The Bush Crowd

Imagine a Democrat favoring personal responsibility in the realm of education which goes against the grain of the victimization mantra.

This is just another example of the failure of society to uphold personal responsibility. What kind of a message is the county sending to these high school students?

Even Jay noticed that along with the fact Greg has Bush loving friends. And just for that, Greg has a new category. Doubt anything is wrong with him. Irregardless of where one falls on the political spectrum, one really should think for himself. I don’t agree with everything Bush does and will be quick to point out such *cough* guest worker program *cough*

Sides which there are more things than politics that people may have in common, like WordPress and picking on Trey.

Fabulous

This is too funny - absolutely fabulous as Dubya might say. Thanks Jay (IM’d to me) for this bit of humor.

Big Change

Moved the disclaimer so noone has an excuse for wrecking their keyboards. I think I’m starting to figure out this CSS stuff.

Finally.

Some things I will never do, not particularly fond of scrolling horizontally and I’d never do this cause Serenity might have a cow.

Tested and I can use most of these with little to no modification, didn’t say I would, but I could. Rather make my own. Now if I were ambitious, I would make some to share.

Supply, Demand, Coolness

I wrote this huge comment then decided why not just post it with a trackback, still shows as a comment and gives the site more exposure. So here goes…

This is a first, I agree with Trey mostly. OK, here, yes, John Kerry jokes are a good thing.

I was thinking about lots of things including the opposite of a shortage, a glut, John Kerry and unemployment and in some ways they’re all related.

I’ll pause now while y’all think about John Kerry glut jokes.

Well he does have a glut of houses and, most likely, botox. And dumb ideas. And votes against weapon systems and intelligence funding, better stop before I get carried away. Here, especially here, this is the best quote.

The principle, however, shows us why John Kerry is a huge bonehead with his proposed economic policies. Specifically with regard to his big ol’ no exporting jobs idea, his ideas amount to little more than protectionism and will accomplish nothing but injury for the American economy.

Kerry is definitely a bonehead.

As to some of the assumptions I don’t agree with, well, living out west, water shortages are related to such inconsequential things like it not raining. It’s very dry here. Add in the large number of swimming pools and, in fancy developments, artificial lakes, trying to keep the lawns green, yada yada, don’t think the farmers are the sole cause, not even. Try overdevelopment, too many people for the actual water. We will run out.

And an excess of supply, depending on item, may have less to do with price than it does with the fact said item sucks. I can think of some dreadfully butt ugly cars here that sit on the lots unpurchased cause of suckage. And I can think of items (iPod mini) that are a tad expensive that fly off the shelves cause they are desirable. It’s so cute, I want one despite owning two iPods (original and third generation).

Note, should mention the fact that something sucks doesn’t stop people from buying and/or using eee!

Undercover Cats

I’ve got too much pain to allow undercover cats. I have never forgotten the time Krissie licked my big toe after the local had worn off. Was the only thing sticking out of the bandages at the time. Nearly hit the ceiling as the foot was a bit hypersensitive. Closed the door to my room after that.

Still…

She can annoy, just try and sit on the sofa and Krissie is all over me. There is no end to her demands for attention and she will rub up against me, swat with her paw, sit on whatever I am working on (severe danger to laptops here) and usually doesn’t stop til I get up and leave. Rarely, she will decide she has enough and perch on the back of the sofa to watch the birds.

Krissie is no respecter of persons, she bothers everyone. She has earned the well deserved nickname, “The Lush.”

Finally Back

Although it took longer than Dreamhost stated in their announcement, which as of 10:30PM last night, four three hours later (that time zone thing) than their stated restore time, the site was still fubarred, service was still extremely slow. Page would load only in Mozilla browsers (no time out) but it took 15 min to load.

Posted: Mar 29th, 2004 - 06:40:48 PM PST (9 hours 49 mins ago)

At this time, all network services have been fully restored to our data center. The cause of the outage was a major distributed denial of service attack (DDOS) aimed at one of our main routers. Once we isolated the problem, we quickly worked with our upstream provider to resolve it. A full report detailing the problem and the steps we will be taking to prevent it from happening again will go out tomorrow. All services are now up, but you may experience email delays as remote networks re-establish connections with our servers. No emails were lost. If you are still experiencing problems of any kind, please contact our support team.

Anyway, the site that the DDOS attack was aimed at is now gone. Obviously, it wasn’t mine as I am still here. Hope it was this one (got to scroll down). Although I am all for free speech, I don’t think it wise to host terrorist organizations irregardless if the DDOS attack was aimed at one or not.
