From FoxNews, is this which is painfully obvious in the blogosphere.
But some analysts saw Zapatero’s move as a direct slap at the United States.
“It’s a terrible message to send. It’s very divisive,” David Gergen, former communications adviser to several U.S. presidents, told Fox News. “This weakens U.S. policy in trying to bring unity to the West as we try and fight terrorism.”
Lawrence S. Eagleburger, secretary of state under President George H.W. Bush, expressed concern that U.S. allies who get hit badly enough by terrorists might jump ship. But he noted that Spain hasn’t done so yet.
“I doubt that the rest - that the countries we have with us now will really cut and run, and the Spanish haven’t done that yet either,” he said.
It’s been what, all of one day since the election, give them time, they will jump ship. Then more attacks will follow and, as other countries see the price for allying with the U.S., their citizens will vote their leaders out of power come election time. Now might we do the same here? Some might be inclined to do so. So, the obvious question is what would Kerry do? Why beef up our police and first responders.
Hiring and Equipping the Nation’s Firefighters. John Kerry has proposed the Father Mychal Judge Fund - named after the chaplain of the New York City Fire Department who died delivering last rites on September 11th - to hire up to 100,000 new firefighters and provide the equipment necessary to assure firefighters are prepared.
Kerry will restore funding for the COPS program. The Bush 2005 budget proposal includes only $97 million for COPS (less than one-tenth of full funding), which is less than: Bush has in the bank for his campaign and less than Halliburton overruns in the Mideast ($124 million).
Creating a Homeland Security Corps. John Kerry strongly supports more homeland security training and resources for existing law enforcement officers. His proposed Homeland Security Corps that would give local communities resources to hire 5,000 additional law enforcement officials who are trained in Homeland Security to help coordinate efforts in their communities.
Fighting to Protect Overtime Pay for First Responders. John Kerry believes that first responders who are required to work extra duty should be fairly compensated. George Bush has proposed regulations that would eliminate overtime “rights” for many first responders. John Kerry opposes these regulations and he will repeal them as President if they become law.
What Bush’s plan for taking the war to the terrorists, routing them out, going to war against terror supporting regimes, as opposed to letting them striking here, isn’t working? Where are the terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11? Aren’t any. Despite Kerry’s complaints about poor port security, poor airport security, poor intelligence sharing, there haven’t been any attacks. And there has been sharing and increased security and other measures as a result of said sharing, and thus no attacks.
I personally would feel more comfortable facing a terrorist in a M1 Abrams tank equipped with some serious firepower than on the street with standard police issue firearms.
And if you listen to the pundits on TV, the answer to terrorism is to negotiate with terrorists. You can’t negotiate with people that want us dead. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kerry wanted to negotiate too.
